Would you like to
sing at work?
There is a movement by SPSU faculty members to start a singing group
on campus. The objective is to become good enough to sing at campus
events such as open house, picnics, and other fun events shared by faculty,
staff and students. More singers are needed. If you are interested
in joining the new campus singing group, please e-mail Stephen Hamrick
at shamrick@spsu.edu for more details.
SPSU's
got talent!
Pierrette Maillet of the Office of Advancement, along with 30 members
of the Sweet Adeline Chorus, advanced to the second round of
the NBC program America’s Got Talent!, a popular game show similar to
Star Search. Although the chorus did not advance past the second round,
we congratulate Pierrette, as well as her chorus colleagues, on their
network television premier. The episode will air on the program's season premier
in June.

Making a big splash
In celebration of Engineering Week, guest speaker Jack Dozier, executive
director of the Georgia Association of Water Professionals, addressed
SPSU faculty, visitors and students on the current condition of Georgia’s
water crisis. He also shared his input on Georgia’s water future.
His presentation discussed the Georgia State Wide Water Plan, the current
drought, as well as education on water conservation. Much of the information
he covered can be found at http://www.georgiawatercouncil.org/
Luncheon
with TWIG
The Technical Women in Georgia (TWIG) hosted their 2nd annual luncheon
for SPSU female engineer students on Feb. 20. TWIG is an affinity group
within Georgia Power; their mission statement is to assist the company
in the recruitment, integration and retention of female employees in
technical roles. The event was held in commemoration of Engineering
Week. Students were encouraged to ask the panel about their career paths,
educational backgrounds and what it’s like to work in a technical
role.
