American Council on Education's gain
SPSU president Dr. Lisa A. Rossbacher has been selected to serve as a member of the American Council on Education’s (ACE) Commission on Women in Higher Education. SPSU has one of the 25 best for 2008
When InfoWorld magazine, the leading publication for IT decision makers, announced their top 25 Chief Technology Officers for 2008, SPSU's own Bill Gruszka, chief information officer, was at the top of the list. Since 2001, InfoWorld has honored senior IT executives who have demonstrated leadership within their companies and in the IT community.

Gruszka was selected because he faces an ever-changing, complex, mobile end-user base. As CIO, he takes a different tack to assure information security. He shares InfoWorld’s Top 25 Chief Technology Officers for 2008 with IT executives from UPS, the Georgia Aquarium, AFLAC, MasterCard Worldwide and others.

The InfoWorld CTO 25 feature appears online at http://www.infoworld.com/article/08/06/02/23FE-cto25-gruszka_1.html

New paper published for Dr. Siddiqi
The article Recycling Stormwater in Commercial Buildings was published and presented at the Proceedings of Solid Waste Management – Focusing on Sustainability Leadership through Sustainable Innovation conference last month in San Francisco. The article was authored jointly by James Glenn, a graduate student in the Construction Management program and Dr. Khalid Siddiqi, chair of the Construction Management department. Glenn currently works for Lockheed Martin as a pilot simulator instructor on the C-130H aircraft and is expected to complete his master's degree in fall 2008.

The motivation for the publication came from the authors' interest in sustainable construction and the draught conditions faced by the people and industry in Georgia.

Mini grant awarded to ECET
Prof. Darren Wilcox of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology (ECET) has been awarded $1,000 to support a senior honors project to develop a prototype autonomous robot that will seek out and mark the location of land mines and unexploded military ordinances. The plan is to develop the robot using inexpensive components so that it can support humanitarian de-mining efforts in under-developed nations where funds are limited. Prof. Wilcox will be working with honor student Joshua Galloway on this project. Full details of the project can be viewed on the Engineering Technology Division webpage at http://www.engtech.org/.
